MUTCH SURNAME FORUM IS RETIRED - APR 21

The last few years have seen less and less activity on the forum that was set up to allow researchers to communicate directly with others. At the same time spam attacks have escalated. I have therefor decided that this is not a worthwhile use of resources and have removed the link.

I will archive all posts and see if they can be made available for searching. I’m looking at possible replacements, such as a blog. Any good ideas are welcome.

FROM LOGIE BUCHAN TO MARS - MAR 16

The daughter of Thomas A Mutch, who has the Viking I Mars Lander as his memorial site, contacted me. See the Mutches in Space entry on the Mutch History page for more details.

Between us we traced the family line back to W22 - William and Mary Shand. This line goes all the way back to J36 - John Mutch born at Logie Buchan in 1674.

PHOTO ARCHIVE ADDED - MAR 11

A new page available through the menus collects all the images available on this website under one, easily browsable archive. This is a valuable new resource for researchers, if you have any photographs of people listed under the Family Lines here please send them to me for inclusion.

If you want to be kept informed of future developments add yourself to the mailing list.

NEWSLETTER ARCHIVE - FEB 11

You can now read past Newsletters by using the new Newsletter Archive link on the menu.

ADDITIONAL INDEXES - OCT 09

You can now get listings of data from the supplementary database as well as the main Mutch one. This mostly includes those born post 1855 and you can search by year or parish.

This should help those trying to find their link to one of the family lines listed here.

NEW MAILING LIST SYSTEM - MAY 09

I have moved the mailing list over to a new system which will make it simpler to maintain. This will allow me to start issuing Newsletters again with information on updates, etc. Some of the email adresses from the old list are no longer valid. If you were previously subscribed and haven’t received a new subscription email then please apply again.

NEW FORUM ADDED - 09 DECEMBER 06

A simple forum has been added. This will allow people to enter their own messages or requests for help in tracing their relatives. Anyone can read messages but you need to register as a user to be able to post new messages or replies. You will be sent an automatic email giving you a password, this can be changed when you first log-in.

BACK IN BUSINESS - JUNE 06

After a break of several months, the website is being updated again. It will take a few weeks to work through the backlog of information sent over that time. Keep checking the changelog or your favourite family lines as a lot of new links have been found.

Development is continuing with extra information being published, to be kept informed add yourself to the mailing list.

NEW WEBSITE LAUNCHED - 18 FEBRUARY 05

New web address, new database, new email address, new search capabilities and fuller information on the families of female Mutches. Clicking on names will show you more details if available.

Please update any bookmarks or links. Development is continuing, to be kept informed add yourself to the mailing list.

Minor UPDATE - 4 DECEMBER 04

Two new family lines added - [A45] and [W33] - as always I am grateful to those who have contributed information. I have also fixed a problem that meant long pages did not print properly, so if you have had this problem - refresh and try again.

Work is going well on the new database and I have now started working on the website layout. The move to the new web address will happen early in 2005, watch this space for more information or add yourself to the mailing list.

ONE YEAR OLD - 18 AUGUST 04

This Website celebrated it’s first year of operation with a virtual dram on the 18th August 2004 (It had to be virtual as I am an Aberdonian after all).

A big THANK YOU goes to all who have contributed information to help it grow so quickly. No matter what technical improvements I make it is the quality of the data you provide which is most important.

UPDATE - 11 JULY 04 ~ IMPROVEMENT TO PRINTING OF PAGES

There have been a lot of updates to the Family Lines during June but I have today rerun an update for all pages. This has been done to improve the layout of pages when they are printed. This relies on new CSS2 standards which are not yet fully implemented in all browsers. As long as you use Internet Explorer 6, or similar modern browser, things should work OK (if not quite perfectly yet).

I have limited ability to try other browsers but if this change causes a real problem for anyone let me know and I can try to resolve specific issues.

The detailed family pages are updated as further information is received, total listed is now 225 with data on 375 spouses and 679 children. - check individual family lines for latest information.

UPDATE - 13 JUN 04 ~ NEW FAMILY LINES ADDED

Thanks to other researchers I have been able to add 15 new Family Lines and update many more. Total listed is now 225 with data on 375 spouses and 674 children.

The detailed family pages are updated as further information is received - check individual family lines for latest information.

UPDATE - 16 APR 04 ~ OVER 200 FAMILY LINES

The Family Lines section has passed 200 entries. The database now includes all families of marriages pre 1855 that I am aware of, cross checking of sources is ongoing.

As further information is received the detailed family pages are updated - check individual lines for updates.

UPDATE - 12 MAR 04 ~ OVER 100 FAMILY LINES

With the latest additions the Family Lines section now has over 100 separate entries. The redesign of the database has been completed, this makes it possible to add all families of marriages pre 1855. An additional index page has been added to allow look-up by reference code.

Adding the new Family Lines is progressing slower than hoped, I have a substantial back-log for entry so keep checking back if your particular Family Line is missing.

UPDATE - 17 JAN 04

The Family Lines section continues to be grow as I receive more information from other researchers. There are currently 84 detailed listings.

To help researchers identify individuals more easily, separate pages have been added to allow the data available to be viewed by Location, Spouse names, Children’s names and by year of marriage.

MAJOR UPDATE - 25 NOV 03

The Family Lines section has been redesigned to show all Mutch Families shown in IGI between 1780 and 1820 + the information I have received from other researchers. There are currently 55 detailed listings.

This is the first stage in trying to achieve an overview of the different Mutch family groups originating in North East Scotland. Researchers beware, most of the data needs to be verified. If you can help please pass details to me so that it can be shared by all.

Minor UPDATE - 11 NOV 03

Updated my own line [W1] for William Mutch to show new information on date of death and parents. Also updated the PDF file for Family Lines and improved the layout.

NEW UPDATE - 25 OCT 03

Added a new line [J2] for James Mutch and updated the PDF file for Family Lines. Corrected the unsubstantiated birth info for [W1] William. I apologise for my inexperience but I am learning.

Created a page to record updates so returning visitors can check on changes easier. Changed email address for contacts (old one still works as well).

NEW UPDATE - 09 OCT 03

Added a new line for David Mutch and some links to PDF files with further information (you need Adobe Acrobat Reader installed). Also added a reference code to each line so we all know who we are talking about.
